Vallejo 72.609 Acrylic paint 18 ml is a water-based liquid acrylic from the Game Color Special FX range, formulated to reproduce realistic rust tones for scale models, miniatures and dioramas. The paint has been prepared for brush application and airbrushing when properly thinned, offering consistent coverage and a matte to satin finish depending on application and topcoat. Supplied in an 18 ml dropper bottle, this brown rust shade is intended for detailing, weathering and creating textured rust effects on metal, plastic, resin and other hobby surfaces.
The paint provides reproducible, evenly pigmented colour with good flow and adhesion on primed model surfaces. Its water-based acrylic formulation dries quickly and allows for layering, washes and blending without long wait times. The dispenser bottle with a narrow tip enables controlled drops for mixing and precise brush loading. Compatibility with common acrylic thinning and varnishing products makes it suitable for combined weathering techniques.
This acrylic is not formulated as an industrial metal primer or corrosion-inhibitor for real-world structural use; it is intended for model-making and hobby applications only. Very smooth, non-porous surfaces may require specific primers or surface preparation to ensure reliable adhesion and to avoid flaking.
Shake the bottle gently before use. Apply with a fine brush for detail work or thin for airbrushing using an appropriate acrylic thinner or water in small quantities. For weathering, apply thin layers or washes and build up intensity gradually; use dry-brushing or stippling to simulate textured rust. Allow each layer to dry before applying subsequent layers or varnish. Clean brushes and tools with water or an acrylic cleaner while the paint is wet.
For realistic rust, apply several transparent washes and vary application techniques—stippling, dry-brushing and sponge application—then seal with an appropriate matte or satin varnish. Test on a sprue or spare piece to confirm dilution and effect before working on the final model.
