KVM Switch Vertiv Avocent 16-Port ACS 8000 ACS80016SAC-404
The Vertiv Avocent 16-Port ACS 8000 is a rack-mountable KVM console server designed for centralized, secure management of serially attached IT equipment. It provides 16 auto-sensing serial ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and dual Gigabit fiber ports for network redundancy, an RJ-45 console port, and a sensor port for environmental monitoring. The device runs an embedded Linux operating system and supports multiple management protocols including CLI, HTTP/HTTPS and SNMP, with authentication options such as LOCAL, LDAP, RADIUS, TACACS+ and One-Time Passwords (OTP). Hardware dimensions of 438.2 x 241.3 x 44.5 mm and a weight of 3.4 kg make it suitable for standard 1U rack installations.
The ACS 8000 family combines secure remote access, comprehensive logging and event monitoring with hardened cryptographic support including 3DES and AES (128/192/256-bit) and FIPS 140-2 compliance. Dual network interfaces and dual fiber ports provide failover and improved availability for critical management traffic. Automated discovery and auto-sensing serial ports reduce deployment time, while support for IPv6 and common management protocols ensures compatibility with modern data center environments.
Install the ACS 8000 in a standard 1U rack location and connect serial cables to the managed devices; the serial ports auto-sense pin-out to simplify cabling. Connect both Ethernet and fiber network interfaces for redundancy and configure basic network parameters through the console port or web interface using HTTP/HTTPS. Configure authentication backends (LOCAL, LDAP, RADIUS, TACACS+) and enable required security settings such as SSH, HTTPS and encryption algorithms. Use the built-in discovery tools to identify connected servers, switches and power devices, and set up logging and event monitoring to capture console output and sensor data.
For reliable operation, deploy the dual network and fiber links to separate network segments to ensure failover. Enable secure protocols (HTTPS, SSH) and strong cryptographic settings (AES-256) and integrate with centralized authentication and logging systems to meet audit and access-control requirements. Regularly update embedded firmware according to vendor guidance and monitor sensor inputs to detect environmental issues early.
