Managed Switch Zyxel GS1200-8
The Zyxel GS1200-8 is a managed Gigabit Ethernet switch with 8 Gigabit RJ-45 ports, full-duplex operation and a switching capacity of 16 Gbit/s. It supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet and other common networking standards, and includes a 4,000-entry MAC address table. The compact, fanless silver body and DC-in power make it suitable for small and medium business networks that need reliable, quiet wired connectivity.
The GS1200-8 provides easy web-based management and a setup wizard for quick configuration, plus features such as IGMP snooping to optimize multicast traffic and port-based QoS for traffic prioritization. Link aggregation enables combining physical ports for higher throughput and improved reliability. Energy-efficient IEEE 802.3az operation reduces power use during low traffic, and the fanless design ensures noiseless operation and fewer moving parts. Additional smart features include port mirroring, Jumbo Frame support, broadcast storm control and loop detection/prevention.
Connect the GS1200-8 to your network using standard Ethernet cables to the RJ-45 ports and apply 5 V DC power via the DC-in jack. Access the switch’s web-based setup wizard from a connected PC to perform initial configuration, create VLANs, enable IGMP snooping, configure port-based QoS and set up link aggregation if higher throughput or redundancy is required. Use the management interface to save configuration backups and perform firmware upgrades.
For best results, place the fanless switch in a well-ventilated area, keep firmware up to date, and configure VLANs and QoS according to application needs. Use link aggregation for servers or NAS devices that require higher bandwidth, and enable IGMP snooping when deploying multicast streaming to reduce unnecessary traffic.
