Network Switch Module Cisco C-NIM-2T Gigabit Ethernet 1000BASE-TX
The Cisco C-NIM-2T is a dual combo port network interface module that provides two RJ-45 copper ports and two SFP fiber ports arranged as two independent port groups. Each group contains one RJ-45 and one SFP port; one port from each group can be active simultaneously to allow flexible media selection for WAN connectivity. The RJ-45 ports support 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T copper links while the SFP ports support 100BASE-FX and 1000BASE-X fiber links. The module supports 256-bit WAN MACsec and is compatible with Cisco Catalyst 8200 Series, 8200L and all 8300 Series platforms.
The C-NIM-2T combines copper and fiber connectivity in a single module, enabling quick media changes without replacing hardware. Support for 100/1000 Mbps speeds on both copper and fiber provides versatility for mixed network environments. Hardware-level WAN MACsec (256-bit) enhances link security for encrypted WAN traffic. Compatibility with Catalyst 8200/8200L and 8300 Series platforms ensures straightforward integration into existing Cisco branch and WAN deployments.
Install the C-NIM-2T into a compatible Cisco Catalyst 8200/8200L or 8300 Series chassis following the platform installation guide. Configure port groups so the desired media (copper or fiber) is active per group; link negotiation will select 100 or 1000 Mbps depending on connected transceivers and cabling. Enable and configure WAN MACsec on the platform to protect traffic over supported links. Use standard SFP transceivers for fiber connections and Category 5e/6/6A cabling for copper links as required by the chosen speed.
For flexible WAN deployments, plan port usage per site so one port in each group is active according to available media. Use certified Cisco SFP modules and follow Catalyst platform guidelines for MACsec configuration to ensure compatibility and secure operation.
