Serial Server Lantronix EDS4100
The Lantronix EDS4100 Serial Server is a four-port device server that adds secure Ethernet connectivity to equipment with RS-232/422/485 serial interfaces. Built for enterprise environments, it combines a terminal server and multiport device server in a compact unit. The EDS4100 supports 10/100Base-T(X) networking, Power over Ethernet (PoE) and flexible power configurations, and includes built-in web server and a Cisco-like CLI for simplified configuration and management.
The EDS4100 provides secure remote access to legacy and edge devices using industry-standard security algorithms such as 128-bit AES, 3DES and SSH. Its programmable Evolution OS and mature protocol stack enable integration with existing networks and support XML and CLI-based automation. Compact dimensions and a single Ethernet port with LED indicators allow easy installation and monitoring, while PoE support removes the need for separate power converters in many deployments.
Install the EDS4100 near the serial devices to be network-enabled and connect each serial interface to the corresponding RS-232/422/485 port. Connect the Ethernet cable to the RJ-45 port and apply power either via PoE or an appropriate 100–240 V power source. Use the built-in web server or the Cisco-like CLI to configure network settings, serial port parameters and security options. Deploy device-side applications or management scripts using XML or CLI commands supported by the Evolution OS.
For secure deployments, enable SSH and AES or 3DES encryption, keep the device firmware updated, and restrict management access via network ACLs. Choose PoE when local power outlets are limited and verify serial port voltage/ signalling compatibility with connected equipment before use.
